Overview:
A blood test that identifies an individual's haemoglobin genotype by analysing the type of haemoglobin present in red blood cells. Common genotypes include AA, AS, SS, AC, and SC.
Purpose of the Test
Used to determine carrier status for sickle cell disease and other haemoglobin disorders. Commonly requested for premarital and family planning screening, antenatal care and the investigation of unexplained anaemia or recurrent illness.
